At the Preventative Medicine, Inc., Dr. Sepideh Moayed meets the needs of her Northern California patients through individualized wellness programs that address the mind-body connection. The focus is on the health of the individual and the ability to thrive, not just the disease. Dr. Moayed has a highly personalized assessment and treatment protocol to help patients deal with the root causes of chronic diseases. Dr. Sepideh Moayed and her team emphasize lifestyle modifications and lasting behavioral changes that help with health optimization and chronic disease prevention.
Board certified by the American Board of Radiology and Fellowship trained in musculoskeletal radiology (MSK radiology), she has diagnosed many pathologic processes including bone, lung, liver, pancreatic, breast and gastrointestinal cancer/diseases to name a few. On the treatment arm, by utilizing interventional MSK procedures, she has treated many chronic pain patients over the years. The recent opiate overuse and overdose crisis and ASAM’s recommendation for non-systemic (non-opiate oral or IV medication) pain treatment has been instrumental in her approach to pain. She believes pain is a powerful emotion and tool that can guide the patient and the physician to the root causes of the underlying disease. Once a detailed diagnostic approach elucidates the underlying pathology, a multidimensional approach can help the patient deal with the pain. The culmination of the mind-body axis approach, addressing the emotional and social factors, optimizing physical health and activity level, medication assisted therapy when warranted and support for patient’s attempt(s), can bring about lasting change.
By helping patients quit smoking (through educational and eye-opening chest CT images), many of the chronic diseases including high blood pressure, vascular disease, cardiac disease and strokes can be prevented. Behavioral changes are the stepping stones of disease prevention. Behavioral changes can be optimized and maintained where there is evidence-based strategies and effective motivational tools. Mind axis is crucial in sustaining behavioral change. By promoting techniques to help with mental calmness, patients learn to incorporate mindfulness techniques to address excess anxieties, fears, and anger issues rather than habit forming substances or compulsive behaviors.
Dr. Sepideh Moayed is a physician, healer, educator, parent, community volunteer and a firm believer that the body and mind can best function when there is preservation of an individual “whole” self. She believes integration of the mind-body complex is more powerful and effective than treating the physical body alone. She highlights that health revitalization takes a multifaceted approach and is most effective when an individual begins to participate in his / her own health and by so doing prevents progression of chronic and debilitating diseases. Years of experience as a radiologist adept at identifying pathology on MRI, CT, Ultrasound or PET/CT images have prepared her to now help patients prevent and effectively deal with chronic disease(s).
